    Grounds Crew Leader



    The Grounds Crew Leader coordinates, leads and provides property, lawn, tree and shrub care, snow removal, garbage collection and disposal, and recycling collection for the community.  This position exists in order to enhance the lives and nurture the growth of older persons by providing high quality service in a cheerful, timely manner and by communicating, coordinating, and cooperating with others to attain goals.


    • Maintains residents rights and confidentiality.
    • Interacts positively with residents, family members, visitors, and other employees under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
    • Mows grass using hand propelled or riding mowers.  Weed-eats around obstacles, edges sidewalks and blows debris from paved areas.
    • Trim, cut, prune or remove shrubs and trees as required.
    • Install landscape plants, flowers, hardscapes and water features as required.
    • Operate and maintain large tractors, backhoes, bucket truck, forklifts, garbage truck and other heavy equipment.
    • Removes litter from grounds, roadways and parking lots.  Assists in garbage collection as well as recycling.
    • Plants, transplants, waters and fertilizes shrubs, trees and flowers.
    • Assists in maintaining and repairing roadways, parking lots and sidewalks.
    • Applies pesticides and herbicides.
    • Removes snow using power equipment such as plows, snow blowers and rotating brushes or manually with shovels.
    • Spread salt using automatic spreaders or by hand.
    • Provides routine maintenance to power equipment including, but not limited to, checking fluid levels, changing oil, sharpen blades, change spark plugs, and mix gas and oil as required.
    • Follows all established policies and guidelines/procedures including federal and state regulations to assure that quality resident care is maintained.
    • May use two way radios for communication.
    • Assist in the scheduling and completion of grounds maintenance program.
    • Acts as back-up driver for transportation division as necessary.
    • Properly completes paper work as necessary for record keeping.


    Education/Experience: Horticultural/related degree and 5 years’ experience in related field OR 10 years’ experience in grounds maintenance or related field.

    Supervisory Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role (crew leader, shift lead, etc.)

    Licensure/Certification: Valid Ohio driver’s license.  CDL preferred.  Ability to obtain Ohio Pesticide Applicator license within 6 months.

    Knowledge/Aptitude: Must be able to read and write English and comply with warnings and directions found on grounds maintenance products and equipment.

    Skills: Must be able to safely operate a wide variety of lawn care, excavation and snow removal equipment.  Must be able to operate a manual shift transmission.
