The Activities Assistant assists the Life Enrichment director with planning, organizing, directing and leading of activities and programs to meet the needs, level and interest of our residents in all levels of care on a contingent basis. Performs other appropriate related and unrelated assigned duties. Works with primarily a geriatric population age range of 62 to 85+.


The individual in this position is responsible for:

    1. Assist with activities as directed by the Life Enrichment Director and in accordance with each resident's care plan
    2. Create a monthly calendar with requirements set by Life Enrichment Director
    3. Drive 14 passenger handicap bus
    4. Accompany residents on outings
    5. Remind nursing staff of activities scheduled and residents who desire to participate
    6. Follow the instructions for the activity as directed
    7. Observe individual resident participation and responses during the activity
    8. Documentation of resident participation
    9. Help with seasonal decorations
    10. Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful community environment
    11. Assist with other tasks as directed by the Activity Director
    12. Keep activity spaces organized
    13. Ability to plan and prepare for activities
    14. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are ill, disabled, elderly and/or emotionally upset
    15. Able to communicate in English
    16. Must be detailed oriented and have excellent literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities
    17. Able to use tools and equipment required
    18. Ability to lift 35-50 lbs
    19. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, push wheel chairs long distances,
    20. Able to work independently and follow scheduled plans
    21. Basic computer skills. Ie. Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software
    22. Valid driver’s license
    23. CDL preferred.

    28. Participate in and promote staff participation in facility-wide special activities such as dress-up days and special observances



  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities.
  • CDL preferred, or be willing to obtain one.  Must be willing to drive bus for resident outings.
  • High School Diploma is required; College/trade school classes with concentration in activities directing is preferred.
  • One to two years’ activities assisting is preferred.
