All Otterbein positions exist in order to enhance the lives and nurture the growth of older persons by providing high quality service in a cheerful, timely manner and by communicating, coordinating, and cooperating with others to attain goals.


The Driver I / Travel Aide operates community-owned vehicles to provide authorized transportation for residents and partners.  Accompanies residents during scheduled medical trips and provides direct care and assistance while traveling and waiting for medical care.


  • Protects and promotes resident rights; including confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and freedom from abuse.
  • Interact positively with residents, family members, visitors, and partners under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
  • Locates and transports residents to and from the transportation vehicle for scheduled medical trips.
  • Travels and remains with residents to provide direct care and assistance throughout scheduled medical trips.
  • Cleans and cares for travel equipment and supplies.
  • Provides direct care to independent living residents as delegated by the Resident Services Coordinator.
  • Sterilizes medical supplies and solutions for the facility.
  • Assists the Nursing Office and Resident Care Assistants when not carrying out other duties.
  • Operates small and medium size cars, passenger vans, cargo vehicles to transport passengers, material nor supplies.
  • Inspects, services and cleans vehicles.
  • Pumps gasoline and diesel fuel, checks oil, water and other fluid levels, provides routine under the hood service inspections.
  • Performs routine clean-up operations in the service area and transportation building shop areas, such as sweeping and washing floors.
  • Orient and train other partners as assigned.
  • Follows all established policies, guidelines, and procedures, including federal and state regulations, to assure safe practices and quality resident care is maintained.


Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification:  Valid Ohio Driver’s License, Clean Driving Record, CDL a Plus.  Successfully state tested and listed on the Nurse Aide Registry within four (4) months of hire.

Experience:  Three (3) years of car or small van driving or equivalent vehicle experience required.

Skills:  Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle required and to do pre-trip inspection of vehicle.  Skilled to communicate courteously and effectively with residents and other partners required.  Must have the capacity to find locations using standard road maps as well as written and verbal directions.
